Sharing my knowledge

Ochitow – means “natural” or “that’s the way it is”

I strive to live a natural lifestyle and the designs I create are derived from nature.

Inspired by my Cree/Iroquois roots as well as nature and the land, I create high-quality authentic fashion and art pieces stitched by hand. Items are made from hides, furs, quills, and horsehair that are ethically and sustainably sourced.

Land Based Stories

Stories and videos of my land experiences.

From Nose Creek Alberta, Vivian lived a traditional lifestyle of hunting and trapping with her family.  She is of Cree and Iroquois descent and is a member of the Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, a unique Indigenous community set in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Grande Cache, Alberta.

This is where Vivian shares her stories and real-life experiences with you.

Traditional Foods

See the foods we respectively harvest from the land, how to prepare the food and recipes you can try at home.

From bannock to assorted wildlife, berries, plants and teas. Learn a little about what we create from our forest harvests.

Handmade Products

Vivian makes clothing from her traditional brain-tanned hides and furs as well as jewelry (including necklaces and earrings).  Her favourite art is beading.  She knows how to do horsetail embroidery, which is becoming a lost art, along with quillwork using porcupine quills.  Vivian finds beading relaxing and grounding. Although tanning hides is physically hard work, Vivian finds the work satisfying and keeps her grounded in her roots.
